THE BIG STRING EXPERIMENT

My piece Nordic Winter Pictures for choir SATB was performed on several concerts in Russia on tour by the Norwegian choir Choriolis. The last concert (picture) was performed in the great acoustics of the Grand Kremlin Palace (Tsar Palace).

String arrangements for Odd Nordstogas concerts with band and strings in the new Opera House of Oslo, performed by Trondheim Soloists.

4 string arrangements written for the New Years concerts with Trondheim Soloists and Ingebjørg Bratland.

Lot of nice people, young and old, came to the opening of Nääs Öfvre Kommunikationshus!

Finally the  swedish handcrafted acoustic pickup microphone made by Ehrlund has arrived to be experimented with the new Sub-Contrabass we have built. Stay tune for the first sound examples!!

I have now started building a new string instrument together with instrument maker Elinore Morris for a new composition project: The Big String Experiment. In the search for notes lower than a contrabass can produce we mounted the longest contrabass string (C – 2,10 meters) on a simple but strong wood construction with a pedal for ”bending” the sound (see pictures). Even without a resonance box the sound is so far suprisingly rich and strong. Next step is to explore different microphones and to build resonance boxes of different sizes.
